On Strange Arrangement, Hawthorne brings 1970′s soul tunes with present day flavor. Originally from Ann Arbor, MI Mayer moved to LA after being signed to area based record label Stones Throw Records. Mayer’s influences include Isaac Hayes, Leroy Hutson, Mike Terry, and Barry White, but draws the most inspiration from the music of Smokey Robinson, Curtis Mayfield, and Lamont Dozier, Brian Holland, and Eddie Holland Jr. There are points on the album that makes it hard to believe that it was released September 8th 2009. Hawthorne’s falsetto fits perfectly with the 70′s style production. I’d highly recommend this one to be your relax by the hot fire winter album.
